Park Güell
After living for 3 months in Barcelona, I gained a profound appreciation for this enchanting city located within Catalonia in the northeastern coast of Spain. While not at all a hidden gem, there is so much to discover in this city known for its mouth-watering cuisine, sun-kissed beaches, and pulsating nightlife.
Traveling to Barcelona soon? Here are my top recommendations and tips for your upcoming travels!
Things to Know Before You Go

Plaça Reial, Gothic Quarter
The two official languages of the city are Spanish and Catalan.
Barcelona is an English-friendly city, with many stores and clubs playing American music due to the high number of English tourists. However, more authentic Spanish experiences can be found in less touristy neighborhoods.
Expect to use euros (€) for purchases.
With a T-Casual ticket, you can seamlessly transition from metro to bus and more within 75 minutes without any additional costs.
Citymapper is my go-to navigation app—it's been a lifesaver for getting around Barcelona and other cities worldwide.
Jaywalking isn't common, and cars and bikes don't always yield to pedestrians.
Neutral colors like nude, black, and white dominate the fashion scene in Barcelona, even during the summer months. Long pants are prevalent.
Barcelona exudes a laid-back energy, with locals embracing a relaxed pace of life and minimal rush in their day-to-day activities.
Activities in the City
Antoni Gaudí's masterpieces: La Sagrada Familia and Park Güell
Bunkers-Carmel: The ideal spot for enjoying the sunset with some beers and pizza while marveling at the city lights as night falls.
Park Güell: Optimal experience during the first morning or last afternoon slot with fewer crowds; book in advance as slots fill up quickly to maintain a serene atmosphere.
Sagrada Familia: Must-visit architectural marvel by Antoni Gaudí.
Gràcia neighborhood: Perfect for bar hopping and immersing yourself in the local ambiance.
Museum with fountain at Montjuic: A picturesque location with a fountain, offering a cultural and scenic experience.
Parc de la Ciutadella: A tranquil oasis within the bustling city, perfect for leisurely strolls or picnics.
Gothic Quarter: Explore the charming streets and historical sites (including the magnificent cathedral) during daylight hours for a safer experience.
Flamenco show at Tarantos: Immerse yourself in the passionate world of Flamenco with a captivating show.

Bunkers (Carmel)

Café & Breakfast
Do you adore coffee? Barcelona boasts some of the world's finest cafeterias and breakfast spots. In Spain, the eating schedule usually involves a light breakfast, a hearty lunch, and a small dinner later in the evening.
My top picks are: Bicioci Bike Café, Wynwood Café, Brunch & Cake, and La Papa.
Other fantastic spots to explore: Colibri Brunch, Farga, Eroica, By Kate, and Santagloria.
Eroica Caffè

Restaurants, Tapas, & Gelato
Discover the perfect blend of tradition and innovation as you embark on a culinary journey through the heart of Catalonia. Some of my all-time favorite restaurants are labeled with the color purple.
Ciudad Condal
Bars

Paradiso
Paradiso: Renowned as the world's top-ranked bar in 2022, it offers an unforgettable cocktail experience within a uniquely vibrant atmosphere. Be prepared for long queues, but the fancy drinks and lively ambiance make it a must-visit during your time in Barcelona.
Clubs

Pacha
Clubbing in Barcelona:
Drinks in clubs tend to be expensive, regardless of location.
Nightlife typically lasts from 2am to 6am or even later.
For pre-gaming, note that small convenience stores and supermarkets aren't legally allowed to sell alcohol after 11pm.
Enjoyment at clubs varies; the company you're with and the overall energy of the night play significant roles.
Club Reviews:
Sutton: Free entry on Wednesdays with early guest list sign-up, albeit pricey drinks. Perfect size for a lively atmosphere, especially with confetti. Clean bathrooms, conveniently located next to Bling Bling. Personally, my favorite night out!
Razzmatazz: $20 cover includes a free drink. This massive warehouse boasts a variety of rooms and many bars. Expect more electronic EDM music with minimal vocals, which offers a refreshing departure from American tunes. Despite being in a remote location, it's an entertaining experience as you explore its various rooms.
Bling Bling: Another $20 cover with a complimentary drink upon entrance. Known for its fancy theme nights and sizable space, second only to Razzmatazz. Expect American music, lively dancers, and an abundance of attractive individuals. My first night out here in Barcelona was a blast here!
Pacha: $15 cover with a free drink via the "oshi list." Offers a mix of American and Spanish songs. Located on the beach, providing a fun and mysterious underground entrance.
Downtown: No cover with the "oshi list." Draws a younger crowd, perhaps too young, with drinks on the pricier side. Spanish music adds an authentic touch, but the venue may feel crowded.
*Other popular venues not visited: Shôko, Opium, and Moog.
Day Trips Outside of the City

Tossa de Mar
If you're looking to explore a coastal town for a day trip outside of Barcelona, my top three recommendations would be: Tossa de Mar, Tarragona, or Sitges.
